Geo Ivanov started his interest in visuals throughout photography in the 1990’s. The path to cinematic images was led by his father’s profession as a cinematographer in Bulgaria and later on in Canada.
Educated in Concordia University in Montreal, he gained practical knowledge in cinematography, as well as the sense of infinite possibilities in visual language and storytelling. Work in the camera department and becoming a member of AQTIS 514 IATSE in Canada started an over twenty years ago it has provided him with hands-on experience in the field. Documentary films were essential part of understanding how to transmit life truthfully from once personal sensibility while staying honest to the subject.
Operating the camera by all technical means on commercial feature films is still exciting as when it first started. Helping the cinematographer to achieve his vision in collaboration with the director’s sensitivity is the goal of true cinema. Lighting and framing in an honest and caring manner dose that.
His long-lasting love for the peaceful power of the sea made him share this universe by underwater cinematography and operating.
As Tarkovsky once said: Movement is made more meaningful in the context of stillness.
